We all need a swift kick in the rear, at times. Life gets in the way; we get busy, tired, burned out, etc. What do you do to keep inspired? How do you push yourself to stay on the track to eating well and exercise?
For me, let's start with exercise. I am one of those really weird people that actually likes to exercise. If I'm sweaty, smelly, and nasty at the end of a workout, then I'm happy. Some people hate to sweat, but I'm not one. Now, I can't say that I'm ready to hit the pavement and weights everyday. That would be a flat out lie. Some days I simply don't feel well or I'm too tired. I try to give myself some slack. Life is ALWAYS throwing a curve ball; you have to learn to be flexible. I do have to remind myself that as long as I got in at least 4 days of work outs, then it was a good week. When I get bummed about missing a workout, I remind myself that weight loss is 80% nutrition, 20% exercise. That sounds crazy, but it's true. I heard once that you lose weight in the kitchen and you get fit in the gym. Having that knowledge under my belt reminds me to watch what I eat.
Now, I will tackle staying inspired with my diet. Do I eat perfectly? Goodness, no. I've had a couple of Tootsie pops today. Just be glad I didn't have a couple packs of Reese's today (yum)! I have every intention of eating nutritious food, but it is really hard to maintain portion sizes and not give in to ALL of my cravings. I have a few (or a lot) of weaknesses. Let's make a list, shall we?
Little Debbie Star Crunch
I am bound and determined to make a healthier, gluten free version of this snack. I miss it.
Hot Tamales
Hot, cinnamon and candy goodness. Heck ya.
Reese's
Reese's is any way shape or form makes me happy. Peanut butter and chocolate are truly a gift from God. I'm convinced. Thank you, Hershey's. Just one more reason I love the great state of PA. :) Actually, I learned a fun fact while I was writing this post. Reese's turned 82 years old in 2010.
Cookie Dough
So bad, but so good. Actually, I have been cookie dough-less ever since I became gluten free. Gluten free cookie dough just isn't the same. Sad, but true.
Cupcakes
Oh, my dear cupcakes. I love them so much. They are perfectly portioned bits of goodness. There's an AMAZING cupcakery in town that makes the most amazing vanilla cupcake. Yes, I'm pretty plain jane with cakes and ice cream. Vanilla is my fave!
"These are a few of my favorite things..."
Luckily, I'm not a huge fan of candy bars, ice cream, pies, etc. I say that, yet I just made an extensive list of all the foods I can easily give in to! I have to be careful that satisfying my sweet tooth doesn't become a daily habit. I fall in to that easily.
What about treats and eating clean? Well, I aim to eat clean 80% of that time, and that makes me happy. I would simply be setting myself up for failure if I aimed at 100%. Our world is filled with unclean foods and sometimes you just don't have a choice or frankly don't care. Cupcakes, anyone?? I need flexibility in my food plan. It's like they say on my P90X video, "do your best and forget the rest." Honestly, I enjoy eating clean. It means I can actually eat, real food at that, and not have have to worry as much about what is going in my body.
